Hey all, new member here. I've had my Russian Death-Ray for a few years now. Recently he's been hissing at me a lot when I pick him up. He always has but its been very little and quiet. Now he gets really pissy and runs around. He's always been quite strange by Russian standards so I'm not sure if thats it or what..

No changes in diet, health, environment or anything. Biz as usual.

Maybe he thinks i stole his car or something.

mingisdew, maybe he is just getting older and finding his voice. Or maybe he finds you a threat to his domain.

Something might have scared him recently to throw him off. I haven't had my tort nearly as long as you, but I thought I had gotten past the hissing every time I tried to pick him up...for whatever reason he started doing it again for awhile...then back to being calm again a week later. Torts are silly sometimes

I love the name BTW. unfortunatly they are tortoises and sometimes they do funnty things. He/She could just be acting fiesty because he/she can, honestly if it is still eating and everything is normal I would not worry about it.

Hi! My little guy Charlie has been going through spurts of activity. I think it has to do with the warmer weather. The hissing I think is either one of three things, a respitory infection-- if he stops eating check with the vet, and check his nose that the nostrils are clear. He could be showing his dominance, Charlie was hissing at my husband when we interupted is feeding. Have you changed anything in his habitat?
