Evenin'. Just discovered the site, thanks to a heads-up from a friendly tortoise afficionado. I'm WoofWolf, in the Mid-Atlantic Area, and I live with a number of tortoises.
I've always been fond of these critters. As a kid in Arizona, had 2 desert tortoises, General and Major, and a Texas tortoise named Petunia. They had a batch of little guys, which gave our local herpetologists pause.
My herd consists of:
A pair of Sulcatas, Ogre and Erno, each 4 years old.
A pair of Russians, about 5 years old. (Affectionate, nuzzling little couple.)
A 6 or 7 year old male red-footed tortoise named Raymond.
A middle-aged Greek male named Scooter.
A middle-aged Russian -- he was my first in adulthood.
And, a combative male Russian which I very recently adopted.
The red-footed, the Greek, and my middle-aged Russian live together in harmony. They eat, bask, sleep together happily. But the solitary Russian doesn't play well with others. Shame... He's very docile with me, and friendly. But put him with any of the other males, and he becomes a snarling (figuratively, of course), butting, biting beast.
I'm looking forward to visiting the forums often, and welcome the learning experience.
Thanks.
