Does the entire enclosure need to be at 80% humidity?? Or only the humid hide? How does everyone keep this humidity up??

How old is your tortoise? The entire enclosure should be humid. The best way to achieve this is by using a closed chamber. Can you post photos of your current set up and we can then make suggestions as to how to raise humidity?

He is about to move out of his current enclosure into a 8'x3'x3' custom terrarium made out of plywood. We would like to move him outside but want to wait until he gets a little bigger first. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1439919183.322612.jpg

Oh. For the top we are doing a wood cover. It just isn't shown in this photo. Do you do anything besides wet the substrate to increase the humidity?

As long as you seal as much as the enclosure as possible to keep air from escaping then having moist substrate will be sufficient. You don't want the substrate to be soaked, but just moist. Usually dumping water on it once a week or so is enough. What kind of heating and lighting are you planning for this new enclosure?

I like to use an indoor enclosure like the one you are making for nights and bad weather days, and have a large outdoor enclosure for fair weather. I go back and forth like this with my sulcatas until they are roughly 8-10" and big enough to live outside full time with a heated shelter.

I like what you're doing with that new enclosure.
But, i too wonder how big your sulcata is ?
Water bowl and plants can help with the humidity to some extent.
