Hi!

I’ve been trialing different humidity meters, analogue and digital but they seem to read very different and am worried I’m not getting the right humidity.

Right now I have the analogue exo-terra one which reads quite a bit lower than the digital one I have.

I know accurate humidity is important so wondering if anyone has suggestions for an accurate humidity meter that I can get in the UK? Or if anyone has the one I have (below) if they think it’s okay?

Thank you!

Hello!
Most digital meters are accurate enough as we don't need lab-grade equipment for tortoise enclosures. Humidity readings are very dependent on where sensor is - how close to substrate, to the walls etc. Since relative humidity is tied to temperature, for example, sensor placed on the wall will show higher humidity if the wall is cold.

Gauge-type humidity sensors are inaccurate because of how they made - a thin thread which absorbs water and makes gauge arrow to rotate is hard to calibrate. So they are definitely a no-go.

Personally we use the exo terra digital combometers, these have had mixed reviews too, but in our experience over the years they’ve worked really well, when we only needed one I’d check it by putting it next to a different brand of monitor we used for our snake for a few hours, the readings always matched up within a degree or two/percent of one another. Now we have multiple we place them together and next to the other monitor, again all read within a degree or two of one another and give similar humidity levels, the temp gun readings tend to match within a few degrees too so I know they’re still running pretty accurately. We run the probe wire through a small gap in the vent and taken bendy reptile wire so the probe can come away from the wall for more accurate air readings

All that said, I’ve seen some folks say they have more success with this kind
