When I woke up today my second Sulcata had passed away. Like Tom said, this didn't work out. I know I have created a few threads on this and I just want to thank everyone who has reached out to help me. At some point I would like to try this again. This time I would like to go with a more reputable breeder. Does anyone have any advice or information on a breeder?

I'd buy a Sulcata either from Tom, who I know starts them right.. Or from Byron @diamondbp
There are others here who start them right but those 2 jump out in my mind with sully babies..

I'm sure you'll have a better experience once you try again. I'm sorry for your recent losses.

Sorry to hear about your sully, I'm sure it was hard on u to lose these guys. I'll give a big shout out to and recommend @Lancecham here on the forum for hatchling sullys. We got our lil guy from Lance last June and have not had one issue what-so-ever. Number one guy, ships, answers all your questions.

I'm really sorry for your loss and I've been there before. I do have both a handful of fresh hatchlings and a handful of 4month olds if you decide you're ready to give it a go again.

So often it's all about those first critical months of care whether or not the tortoise has an actual chance of survival. Best of luck to you with whatever you decideImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1426463042.032906.jpg

I'll have some in the next few months. Austin in AZ, Lance and Diamond all start them right...

The main thing is to get them from someone who uses a damp substrate and soaks daily. Most breeders soak once a week and use rabbit pellets as a substrate. Not good.

I don't know how you could beat one of Diamond's 4 month olds. Lance sometimes sells older ones too.

So sorry that you had to go through this learning process. Condolences on your loss.

I was browsing threads and came across this one. Sorry for your lose. I had to learn the same heartbreaking lesson back in the fall with some leopard hatchlings. It's really heartbreaking and it makes ya feel helpless. I also have sulcata. I got two from @Lancecham back last July and like others said, haven't had one issue. Their both eating machines, growing like crazy. The were bright eyed and active right out of the shipping box. There is a section on the forum, vender reviews or something it's called, you can go on there and check out the reviews on many different breeders. One day I want to rebuild my leopard group and that section is where I will start. Again sorry for your lose.

Thank you all. I am going to give it a little time before I jump into anything. This experience was not a good one. Thank all of you again for taking the time to answer all my questions.
