Since I am more knowledgeable in amphibia (Dart frogs specifically), I am using those experience to managing my Greeks and have tried on my Russian group. An emphasis is placed to breed import to import in dart frogs, enough that many are sold my import year and importer. They are found in much more isolated locations and each morph is closer to being more of a subspecies.

Before this purchase I have not owned Greeks. Wanting to work with them, my thought is breed this import to others from the same import. It helps insure to breed animals collected in similar locations. While this make not work well with chelonia, it is the approach I am taking. Any thoughts on this GBtortoises? Any thoughts on ID and feel free to correct what I believe they are.

Most are subspecies that don't need hibernation. My opinion:
1 tg.ibera or antankyan?
2 tg.graeca
3 tg.antankyan
4 tg.terrestris

Maybe GBtortoise will give more accurate answer.
You can see my post 2 days ago, my 3 are very similar to yours with number 1,3,5.

Not sure about the IDs... hopefully GBtortoise will chime in.

I do believe, however, that Antakyans have been officially lumped in with the terrestris subspecies.

#1 & #3 are Antakyan or Ibera, depending upon which descriptions you choose to accept. #3 is most certain, #1 is a bit difficult to tell without seeing a good view of it's head. Many believe that Testudo (gracea) antakyensis is not a valid subspecies but that tortoises of that description are simply a regional variation of Testudo (gracea) ibera. I prefer to treat them as seperate from Ibera because they are for the most part actually found moreso in the Middle Eastern region than that of true Northern Ibera. Antakyan should be maintained as Middle Eastern Greeks in relation to temperature and humidity.

All of the others are Middle Eastern subspecies hailing from a variety of places such as Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. As far as pinpointing the actual subspecies of each it is nearly impossible to do so without knowing the location of the wild population that they originated from. Many of the Middle Eastern Greek subspecies share similar characteristics. Depending upon which information you choose to believe there could be anywhere from about 7 to over 20 different subspecies of Greeks throughtout the Middle East and North Africa. If you ask a dozen people to identify them, you are likely to get as many different answers!

Although it may prove difficult to do in a practical sense, I love your plan and it sounds like excellent reasoning to me.
