My tortoise has been underground since the middle of December but we weren't sure whether or not he should be hibernating so we have been waking him up on and off to feed him and let him soak, but he goes right back and buries himself. He did not do this until we moved in the middle of December. I am just not sure whether or not to leave him be or wake him up every once in a while like we've been doing???? Any advise would be great.

Do you have your Russian inside or outside? He/she might be trying to brumate and if he/she is you should probably just leave him/her be. However if he/she is inside there is probably a problem that needs to be fixed. Where are you located?

dont wake him up and feed him and let him go back to sleep. Either leave him be or bring him inside and warm him up for a few days,, then try to feed,, but you will have to keep him warm and awake if you do so.

Is this the same Russian tortoise you described in a previous thread or is it another species of tortoise?
If its Russian, then, as previously mentioned, you have two choices:

1.) Leave it alone and let it hibernate. It'll wake up on its own when its ready.
2.) Wake it up, warm it up, and keep it awake, warm, and fed until spring.

You can't mix the two. Waking it up to soak and feed it and then letting it go back into hibernation is not healthy.
