Tonight here in central Arkansas we have been really having severe weather. Tornados, straight line winds, and flash flooding.
My 15 month old sulcata has always been very shy with me and never has really been social but tonight amongst the bad weather, when I got home from work I ran outside to his enclosure scared to death it was filled with water (I live on the Arkansas River) it wasn't but there he was waiting on me. I picked him up to bring him to his indoor enclosure setup in the garage. Thats when he did the most awesome thing. He started to allow me to rub his neck and head, totally stuck it out there. He has never allowed this. He literally let me comfort him or maybe he was comforting me, but I am the happiest tort owner right now!
Just thought I would share my happy moment with everyone.
Btw storm damage isn't bad, down trees and such things but we are use to that type thing here.

How old is your tortoise? I find many of them get a lot less fearful around three years old.

I'm so happy for you. It means so much to us caregivers to feel like we are their protectors and love them. Thanks for sharing.

:) cute. I have a hatchling leopard and he really isn't all that afraid. He lets me rub his head (very gently cause of how little pressure it takes to push his head down) And he crawls around on me when he comes out for exercise and eventually crawls into my hand to sleep or he tries to push himself deep in between my arm and ribs and sleep.

Tom, I found the same thing out with my 3 sulcatas. The 2 babies are still scared but my 2-3 year old is so trusting and not shy at all anymore. This was a great story! Glad everyone's ok
