I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is going wrong with my Redfoot egg incubation. I looked at everything but the thermometer over and over the last few months. I finally checked the thermometer and find it's faulty by 20 degrees and more than 30% humidity!

I've lost 15 eggs due to missing the obvious! I'm so mad at myself. Don't let this happen to you! Change your thermometers and double check them often.

I've never incubated eggs, but it seems to me that you'd want to use an analog thermometer, no?

Good points for both of you. I use both. Just to be extra sure.

I also use both digital and analog. Most of the time the digital thermometers are off by anywhere from 4-20 degrees! It appears to me that the more humidity they are exposed to, the farther off they are. I think a lot of people put their trust in "new" digital technology assuming that it must be accurate. I have two analog thermometers that I have calibrated every couple of years at a local water test lab so I put my trust in them over the digitals. My suggestion to anyone incubating eggs is to buy a few good quality lab grade thermometers. They are expensive, usually $70 & up, but well worth the price compared to losing even one clutch of eggs.

I do use both. I like your idea about the lab grade thermometers. I ok with the extra cost ifthey are worth it. Can you tell me what brand you use? Or where one would get them? I could search the internet but not knowing a reputable site I'd be guessing.

Thanks for the idea.
