How big should my Star tortoise be currently? He is about 3 years old and has an incredibly firm smooth shell. He eats and poops daily rotating between greens and various pellets with various supplemental powders rotating into every meal as well. He has a UVB, CHE, and temps relatively check out. He is in a 4x2 enclosure that is concealed for humidity. But he is incredibly small. Is there a weight, size chart for stars to help me keep track? I have not been able to find one. I have had this tortoise for 2 years. Thanks

Personally, I would expect a three year old Indian Star to be around 4" to 5", but your tortoise looks great. The males are smaller than females, so perhaps yours is a male.

That being said, I would feed that tortoise as much as it will eat every day. This means keeping a pile of food available to the tortoise from the time its lights come on in the AM until they go off for the night.

You could also increase the amount of Mazuri you give it. Most tortoise love that stuff and it might serve to kick start some faster growth.

What are the temperatures and humidity? A lack of growth often is associated with temperatures that are too cold, not allowing the gut flora to thrive. Stars like it hot and humid.

What is the temperature of the coldest spot and warmest spot in the enclosure - both daytime and nighttime?

What is the humidity in the enclosure? Daytime and nighttime?

What do you have for lighting? What type ambient light, basking light and UVB light? An enclosure too dim can also lead to more lethargy and lack of appetite.

Is there good plant cover for natural hides? An enclosure too barren will also cause low-grade stress and can inhibit growth.
