Hello my name is Kelly. I am a new sulcata owner of a wonderful tortoise hatchling named Lou (Lucian/Luann). I am glad to be a part of this community and look forward to having Lou as a part of my family for the rest of my life.

Welcome to tortoise forum. I notice that the your tortoise has one eye closed in the picture you included. Does this happen often or was that just a hastily taken picture?

I ask this because certain substrate material and types of UV(B) bulbs can cause severe eye problems in tortoises. Tortoises often do not visibly show symptoms of severe health complications until it is too late. This is why we generally recommend new owners to upload picture(s) of their tortoises, their enclosures, and their lighting equipment as a precaution.

Also where was your tortoise purchased from?

Please find the time to read all of these links when you can. Included are two very well written up to date care sheets on Sulcata tortoises:

Welcome! Everytime I see a little sully it makes me want to get another. What a cutie!
Follow the advice here and get your sully started off in the right direction. I found TFO after having Opo for a few months and was headed in the wrong direction. It cost me money and worries if I was treating Opo correctly. Moisture, moisture, moisture, daily soaks. Good luck!.

It was just a quick snap, not a normal look for him. I have been reading a lot of threads on here and have already ready those threads, thanks for referring new members to them. I'm working hard to have it nice and humid for him/her to start 'em off right. Thanks for the warm welcome.
