Is this a bad idea?

I built this today for my Russian. It gives him a bit more shady area, plus a bit more real estate to wander around. At the highest part it's about 5-6 inches off the ground. My tortoise is very little but I kinda tested him out near ledges and he seems to get the concept of 'no more ground to walk on', I'm not overly concerned with him falling. Maybe a rookie mistake?

I also have plans to plant some grasses/flowers on the bottom. That's a work in progress though.

I would go with something they cant see through and something that they cant get their foot stuck in. You can get some cheap maybe free plywood and add that as railing.

Deff railings but I would have made it wider, like have 1/4 to 1/2 the tub. Looks nice though, but does need railing

I like that idea and the railing would make it even better. In fact, I might have to copy that. Ours also live in a Rubbermaid tub just like that and I'm always trying to think of ways to make it more interesting.

it came as a big rectangle and I just cut it down to the 3 walkway pieces and there are also 4 "support poles" that you can't really see that help hold it up. I took paper clips and stuck them half way into each side of the pieces to connect them and filled in any gaps with some loose substrate. Probably took me an hour and a half to do it all.

I cut up an old shoe box to make the railing. I'll probably make it more colorful at some point but I wanted to get it put in before Yortoise woke up The railings are about 3 inches high, it doesn't really look like it from the picture. There stuck on with double sided tape so if they ever need to be bigger its an easy fix. Amazing how strong that stuff is eh?

I had originally planned on making them a little wider but i accidentally cut them thinner than planned and just kinda went with it. Yortoise is still really little and I think i got some time before he's too big for this. The railing may need to be upgraded at some point but that's an easy fix like I said above.

I used to have a similar set-up when my sulcata was tiny... I had reptibark piled up high around his little house, with a gradual incline all the way up, so he could climb up and look out from his roof. He made it a habit tho to take a nose dive off the top, constantly! He'd jump off, climb back up, and then jump off again. He continued this until he managed to turn himself upsidedown, then I'd turn him over... And he'd do it again. ;D I ended up remodeling again a few hours later. Maybe your breed of tortoise is a bit wiser, but railing might be a good idea, and it could look cute too!
