Is this growth??

Not sure if you can see what I mean, but there's a space between a few scutes and black ring between the scutes on the left side - is this growth? Not pyramiding? I hope it's not pyramiding - I keep the humidity above 80%.... :/ or am I being paranoid?.... lol

No. Growth is not from there.

New growth usually are grayish to white in between the scutes.

That black ring is recent growth. The newest growth will be on the margins of the scute and, as Kelly said, will be grayish to white. It does look like it is coming in smooth. Keep the humidity up, especially under the basking light(s). Avoid hot spots on the shell.

I think I need a new basking light. I think it's too hot. He never basks though.

Maybe use a dimmer switch to decrease the heat instead of getting a new basking light. I got my dimmer switches for about $7 each on Amazon.
