So I found this for only about $10. Is this a reliable thermometer or are there any better? I like this one cause it has humidity and temp. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1479421850.096988.jpg

No. Analogue measurements are not accurate. Those devices are designed to stick to the wall of an enclosure. Your tortoise lives on the floor.

You're better off with a digital temperature gun type thermometer which does good spot checks. (You should be able to get one from
Amazon or a hardware store for under $10. )

For humidity get a separate probe type digital hygrometer. Again they're not that expensive. The probe can be placed in the actual location that you want to measure.

what brand would you recommend? I don't want to buy from a bad brand, or get one that's unreliable.

Oh, and to answer the original question. Yeah, don't buy that junk. They are horrible.

If they take any serious jostling they can be knocked out of calibration, if they spend time in a humid enviroment the cardboard backing swells and messes with the reading, and is just straight up made with cheap cheap materials. It might work out of the packaging, but very few of them last.

If you can't find one of the digital ones in the store then go to amazon.

That and pick yourself up a digital infared thermometer so you can do spot checks. Those things are worth their weight in gold to anyone that keeps any reptile.
