So I plan to purchase a Russian Tortoise this weekend. I read the care sheet there was a lot of good information. I have a couple of questions about the indoor enclosure. I want to start buying this I need, and I would like to know what you all use.

What substrate do you use for your indoor enclosure?
What lamps do you use? I seen that i could use UV lights or the MVB which do you recommend?
will an 85 watt be ok?
I also want to put a stairway does anyone know how to build one?
Which thermometer and hygrometer do you use?
Have you bought any lamp equipment online and did it break? am I better of buying it in a store?


Sorry there's a lot of questions. I want to make sure I have the right items before I purchase one.

If it's a baby Russian I've heard coco coir but orchid bark is good too

Do NOT purchase one of the coiled compact florescent light bulbs that pet shops carry.
It could damage your tortoises eyes and some places don't let you return lights for a refund.
