Just adopted this guy. Anything I should be worried about/change in his care?

I haven't really seen anything about trimming their nails? Are they supposed to do it on their own/are there products to put in his house to help him scratch them down? They seem pretty long to me. Also, the previous owner just wasn't sure if his shell looks okay with the new growth being so light colored- is this a sign of something? Thanks! Happy to have found this forum so I can give him the best care.

This tortoise looks great. Hand pack that coir for best results. Its too messy when loose like that.

Russians do have traditionally longer nails than other species. You don't have to worry about that. And young, captive bred russians normally look much lighter than more grown, wild caught russians. I see nothing about that youngster that is worrisome.
