My plant identification app says this is lamb's quarters, but the photos don't look much alike. Can anyone confirm if this is lamb's quarters?

I am very confused because this is in a part of the yard we completely tore out because of common purslane. I seeded this area with a mix from Tortoise Supply. There was no lamb's quarters before we tore everything out either.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

Not lambs quarter. I don't know what it is though.

That looks more like purslane than lamb's quarters to me, especially in the first photo. The leaves just don't look right for lamb's quarters whose leaves are flat and serrated on the edges.

These plants need some time to grow before I'd want to say for sure, but my phone identifies three common weeds that look at least sorta right to me.

The first one comes up as purslane and I'm inclined to believe it. It's not lambs quarters or anything like it. Sad looking purslane though!

The second one shows goosefoot, which is pretty much lambs quarters. I can vaguely see it but need a little more growth, the color should be fairly gray once it gets a little bigger.

Last one comes up as knotweed. Again, looks reasonably close, but that's not a weed we have much of so I won't claim it.

None of them are harmful. If you want to pull them to make room for your other seeds to grow that's fine, but I'd leave at least a little of the first two.

Thank you for just fast responses. Its not prevalent so I'll leave it be, for now. I'm just super paranoid about Earp getting into some that is poisonous and could make him really sick or kill him.

We spent a small fortune and several weekends with a sod cutter getting rid of everything in the backyard because there was so much not great stuff for him mixed in with good stuff. It was easier to get rid of everything and start fresh.

I don't want those efforts to be in vain. 😂

Is common purslane ok? The Tortoise Table made it sound like I should not allow my tortoise to eat it. It, and several other weeds The Tortoise Table said were not safe were the main reasons we tore everything out. 😬

The tortoise table lists are a little bit over conservative in most people's opinion. I feed several of the items they recommend against.

It's completely fine. The Tortoise Table can be shaky with its science. Oxalates, which is what they warn about, are perfectly fine in a varied diet; those warnings are outdated. Search this forum and you'll see it fed over and over again. They have the same warning for lambs quarters and it is regularly fed as well.

I don't rely on the Tortoise Table at all, but can understand why some folks are very cautious feeders and use it.

Whether your tortoise will eat it is another thing. 🙂 Mine will try a little in the spring.
