The two lamps are really close and the long one gets really hott on the side. What can I put on the lights to fix this without moving them?

Is there anyway that you can readjust them a bit so that there is at least a dew inches of air between them...?
Could you post a picture? It might give a us a few ideas.

Well first of all I would never put any fabric on top of anyhow lamp! You are asking for a fire! Second of all it looks like your dome lam is angled, it should be straight down. I would try moving it and using something else to cover the top
What kind of bulbs are in the domes and what kind is in the long light?

Remove the fire risk fabric.
Point the basking lamp straight down at the enclosure. It will then give proper heat for basking and won't heat the lamp next to it which is, I assume, a UVB tube light.
in the dome, 100w basking and in the tube is a 5.0 uvb i believe. but how can i get it so it points straight down??
Use a reptile lamp stand (google for it) so that you can hang the lamp above your enclosure.crocididdle said:
Try lowering the heat dome how many inches from the top of the torts shell to the light is there now?with the dome under the uvb light it should not effect the uvb out put or the life how ever if you don't have the hieght to drop the dome you may need to slightly move it to the side. Also if your unaple to find the lamp stand see if you have a heavy board use that to cover the top your lamp might have come with a clamp use that to clamp to the bored and straighten the dome out.
As a temp hook when I'm misting and mixing my substrate I use a huming bird feeder hook has sucktion hooks and I bent the metal hook to streatch out away from the glass I bought it at the dollar store. Works great but I only use it as a temp holder see pics
