Hello.

I need help with my tortoise george.

Basic information-
His name is George
He is 2yrs and 7 months old.
He is normally a very active and happy tortoise, would eat from morning to night if he could.
On sunday 27.03.2011 i got him a larger tortoise box and arranged it all the same as his older one, i noticed that he had gone off his food. At the time i put this down to him sulking as he was in a larger space, then by Thursday 31.03.2011 i realised he had not pooped with (within this time he still eaten anything). My main concern is the fact he loves his soo much and he is just not interested. His favourite is dandilion leaves but he goes up to them just stares then goes back to his bed.

im really scared please help

he might be just scared in the new enclosure. look over everything.. temps, lights, substrate, hides.location..what else changed?
make sure you give him a nice warm water soaking.. that might help..

Sometimes soaking in warm water in your bath tub works. Clean out the tub and rinse it well so there's no soap residue. Then put in some warm water, deep enough that it comes up to the middle of his sides. Walking around in the tub of warm water helps them poop.

thank you for ur quick replies.

the temp is at 27'c and he has a basking light as well as a UV strip.

Yeh i have bathed him everyday but he still wont eat. he has walked upto the dandelion leave went to bite one the turned his head and walked away...

only thing that has changed in his enclosure is i have introduce some sand, which he seems to enjoy trotting on.

i am very worried cos he has been totally fine up until now.

I'm not a leo expert, don't have any yet, so take this all with a grain of salt.

27 sounds low to me for an ambient, and from what you're saying he sounds cold. Of course you didn't indicate where you got that temp. If that's your basking temp, then you're probably way low on temps.

Sand can pose an impaction hazard. Personally I wouldn't use straight sand as a substrate (I mix it with peet and dirt) and many keepers wouldn't even do that, they allow no sand anywhere near their torts. Hopefully, he hasn't ingested too much. Impaction is usually only a risk if the tort is dehydrated, but that occurs fairly easily in captive torts.

Some pictures and more readings may help folks get more ideas to help.
