i think a galapagos tortoise has been known to live longer (200+ years). I personally know one that is 153 years old.

Yeah, I don't remember the exact dates, but Darwin brought back a Galop and presented it to some royalty person or another, and it was documented at over 200 years when it died.

I don't think there is documentation for galaps living over 200+ years, but I also believe that they can live over 200+ years.

I went to the Australian zoo the year that Harriet died. Harriet was a galap that was 175 years old.....bummer she died 3 months before I got there.

The only older recorded vertabrate was a Koi that lived to be 226

Tui Malila is the oldest recorded, Harriet the second. I am sure they can live over two hundred, though.

A Mediterranean Spur Thigh lived to be 160.

I think sometimes these numbers are so extreme, we would consider it a failure if our tortoise "only" lived 80 years. But is it?

Look at the statistical evidence for people living to 100. Then look at how many make it to 110. Its 1 in 1000! Its a tremendously small percentage of the overall population.
