These little ( incubated for females ) girls could easily sit on a half-dollar!

That is if they would sit still!!! - You would not believe what it was like getting these pics...

Yes, I would love to, and hope to. I currently still work full time, commute to and from work and often have meetings after work, so my time is limited. My hubby loves our cats but is not terribly into reptiles, so the care would probably be all on me. I will be able to retire from full time employment when I turn 60 in 2.5 years (not that I'm counting! Ha!). Although I expect to continue part time employment, I'll have more time and more CONTROL over the time I have. Although I think the diamondbacks are THE most beautiful, I also fear for their safe keeping. We live just 23 miles north of New Orleans- close enough to the Gulf that we evacuate for hurricanes (we also could SMELL the oil from the BP Deepwater Horizon Disaster when that was happening). I will NOT leave my pets behind. I feel comfortable that I could safely evacuate with a Redfoot or Cherry head, but how would I evacuate an aquatic animal like a diamondback terrapin? :-(

And we have lived here so long, and accumulated so many friends that we feel our roots are permanent.

I guess I'm still not clear exactly how much interaction time turtles WANT with their humans- maybe being fed and kept clean is enough for them to be happy?

So.. you do what you normally do when you evacuate.. for your pets - you put them in a temporary enclosure.. kinda like - Does your Vet make house calls? No... you put them in a temporary enclosure ( cat-carrier ) and away you go.

The pics of these terrapins were taken in a temporary enclosure ( plastic gallon ice-cream pail ) - they are baskers so they can tolerate being out of the water for hours on end. Long-fibered moss.. a little water - adjust per size!

I'll get pics of their "home".

Actually with ALL turtles and tortoises - "the less we mess.. is best" !!! - I've only been keeping them now since 1976... first turtle was in 1952.

Thanks for the info! I may just have to readjust my thinking!

I'm interested in seeing your set ups- both indoors and out.
