Great indoor set-up, and good looking tortoises. What makes you say they are 4 years old? Did you buy them as hatchlings? Reason I ask is that they look like adults to me.

Your boys took great. Do they ever try and climb out using each other or the rock at the end of the pen? Because I hear RT are great climbers.

Great looking guys. How do they get along in general? I'd love to get another RT but don't want hatchlings so would need another male and I hear that typically doesn't work out too well.

The women i got then from got both of them at petco, a bit over 4 years ago. They were sick and she took care of them, so we shall say rescued them from petco.
She had them both for 4 years. Got 2 males cause she didn't want to deal with eggs and stuff she said.
Also you can measure the growth ring, the vet did as well and said they were about 4 1/2, years old so it matches the what the women said.

She had tomatoes in the table and corn bob bedding. so i ran out and got things i thought would work, after many questions here, remember i knew nothing about then before i got them, i run a rescue here with a game farm as well, so i am learning as i go too.

So yeah i have a few pictures when she first got them, wee ones for sure.
The little one hib in winter but the bigger one doesn't. So since i live in the far north and winter is coming i need to read all i can about hibernation. Hopefully they wont. But i need to know just in case.
I am trying to learn everything i can, and i am becoming pretty well educated lol.
They will have a great indoor 4x8 inside pen soon, and they will have the whole bedroom to them selves, its tiled so they will roam free in there as they want.
Next year a outside pen will be built.
I ordered lots of things too, so they should be coming in early this week..

Yes they are peeling just a bit, and i think the top of the little one head is very dry. I know she hasn't been soaking them.

But for now the tort table will do fine for them. They get along great together but they know each other well too. Its just that little one is very ummm into breeding lol and man o man can he squeak LOUD.

thanks everyone, but i will be back with more questions i am sure lol
look i am already up to 20 posts lol

and no they don't try to climb out... well they haven't yet anyways...

Hate to go against anything a vet says but, I agree with Yvonne, they look much older then four years. Also, I highly doubt Petco had any hatchlings for sale four years ago. Add to that, growth rings are not one for each year, rather they show a period of growth. They give a base for a guess, but that's about it.

The pictures, that i said in another post, i have pictures of them and they are very small, they were sitting inside her palm. and the paperwork from there confirms along with the pics that they are indeed a bit over 4 years old.
And also when i lived in phx az, the petco on bell always had new hatchings. And she got hers from AZ as well, Glendale AZ 4 years ago when she lived there.
So first, i got photos of the wee ones
second i got paperwork on them from purchase.
Third 6 people now, one vet, the old owner and 4 Russian tort owners all agreed they are about 4 1/2 years old as well.
So i don't know.

How old do you think they are?
All i care about is that they are healthy, and happy and love their new home here with me.. and they live a long time.. Cause my 18 year old son will care for them after i am gone.. So they will have a great life till they die of old age....
