I would like some information concerning getting my tortoise a microchipp. Is this something that has been done, is it not safe, not worth the trouble, any lasting effects, etc. My Sulcata is 6 years old and 40 lbs. I wasn't sure if it might help if Sheldon was ever stolen. It was just a thought I had.
Thank you. 20180401_170148.jpg

It has been done. It's safe if a qualified vet does it. It can help get your tort back if lost or stolen.
Only you know if it's a concern for your tort and in the area you live whether he would be easily lost or stolen.

It would only help if you found it and needed to prove it was yours. Not many vets would consider looking for a chip on a tortoise....
Yeah.. implanted GPS tracking would be handy though.
Wait... Is that a thing?

Several of my more expensive tortoise species are pit tagged. @Will has a thread started here on the Forum where people can keep a record of their pit tag numbers. When I'm not looking at the Forum with my Kindle, as I am now, and on the computer I'll try to find the thread and post the link here.
