I figured when I added nightcrawlers yesterday, that if any came to the surface, they would run the risk of becoming redfoot snacks. I has no idea the reds would actively dig them up.
My reds love bugs, I see them digging in their hides and around their food dishes constantly. Any moist spot behind my house has dozens of snails on it at night. The front yard where the tortoises live have almost no snails left. We've started picking them up when we see them and pitching them over the front fence to live around the tortoise ponds until they become a snack.
Yeah, I've watched my babies dig for bugs in the enclosure, there not fast enough to catch pill bugs that are moving around, so they watch where the pill bugs go and then dig to get them, it's very entertaining to watch.
