Thanks, I have a mulberry started. My banana trees I never have any luck. We get 3 or 4 days below 32° and that's it for them. I cut them back and start all over again. I have hibiscus and Rose of Sharon started also.Let me get a few photos of mine tomorrow.
It's very sturdy and shady. Also an interesting and good looking plant.
It might be a good candidate.
I've also got Suriname Cherry hedges. Also fast growing and become dense bushes with edible fruit. And hibiscus.
Both are safe and grow well in Florida.
Mulberry trees can work. But every time I get one established, wild parrots come and destroy it.
Also palm frees and banana and plantain plants. Easy to grow. Safe. Resilient and easy to get and grow with big, shady leaves.

We are in the low 50's high 40's most of the time. But we will get that one week where for a few days it flirts below freezing. I guess if I covered the banana tree. During that cold snap they might make it. I remember a few Christmas days ago. We were fishing on the Sebastian inlet. It was 30°, I couldn't wait for the sun to come up.Sorry.
It's been doing the south Florida thing every day
(Raining like the world is coming to an end)
I'll get photos soon.
It seldom gets into the lower 50s here. And never (almost never) reaches freezing
