This is the red foot I got last August. I was told he was hatched around August 1st. I think that seems accurate at when I got him his egg sac had a small piece still attached and his belly wasn't sealed up. He's been growing. He's 137 grams and 3.5" SCL.

Any idea of what type he is?

Looks like you've got 2 northerns. They're very nice looking torts!

Ray ...very nice little redfoots ! You will receive lots of opinions as there "local" . Unless well documented down the gene lines ....it's anyone's guess especially in young captive bred torts. As your tortoise matures there are different "key" signature marks , that "to date" is the so called rule of thumb of identification. With so many color variances within this species ...."head , scale coloring" is not always the "key" to identification. Other identifying marks in adults can be used in conjunction to more accurately pin point....the so called species
"local" A prime example shown here .......

Adult Northerns’ typically will have the tell tell black hour glass shape on the bottom of the plastron.

Large Adult

Young 6"

another example of "THE CURVE BALL OF THE RULE OF THUMB".....
99% with many factors included, the Cherry Head RF will have a marbled plastron. Here is large Cherry male who's plastron is almost solid BLACK!....hence exact opposite of what you will hear and read almost all the time .
