The past 3 days my tortoise has been going crazy and running around her outdoor cage. Because of her wild behaviour we let her roam around the house for more space, but she still speeds around the house. Can Anyone explain to me why she does that?

Nothing seems to be wrong with her, she just has more energy than usual. Her outdoor cage isn’t tiny either. She lives as an only child with no other tortoises. But she gets plenty of love and care from us.

I would not recommend letting your tortoise run around the house, they could eat something dangerous and become impacted. Tile is super cold for tortoises, so is the room. Build a big enough enclosure and they won’t need to. She could be trying to escape because her enclosure is too small. It needs to be at least 8ft by 4ft.

It's possible she's looking for a place to lay eggs. Does she have enough area in her outdoor enclosure to dig a nest somewhere?

Temperature is not a problem since we keep a hold on that and we have heating in our floors, plus it’s more hot outside than usual. Of course we make sure she doesn’t eat anything thats unhealthy for her and look after things which she might find edible on the floor. We have replaced many things just for her. I don’t think those things are the problem, and it might have something to do with breeding season. Thanks for your tips i’ll still look into it.

Her outside enclosure is easily bigger than that, we even added a brand new extension
to it last week. We made sure she has many hiding spots and so on, but think you’re right, she might be looking for a place to nest. I’ll do some research and see if i Can help her with that. Thank you.

If torts are on smooth hard surfaces for long and continuous periods of time they can get splayed legs, which makes it harder for them to walk.
