I'm a little worried that my red-footed tortoise, Bubbles, has shown a lot of inactivity and I want to know if I should be worried. She pops out once or twice every two weeks and eats heartily. What does this mean?

I'm surprised that no one has responded to your thread yet. Gotta ask the basic questions (under the assumption that you are new to redfoots) first: How old is the tort, how long have you had her, enclosure details (size, temps, humidity, lighting), any recent changes (environmental and/or temperament)?

I'm sure you'll get more answers if you provide more info. Pictures of the tort and enclosure always help. If she seems to have a healthy appetite and is growing steadily, I probably wouldn't be too concerned.

What size is the tortoise? How long have you had the tortoise? What does the tortoise do when it is not out eating and pooping? Are you home all day watching the tortoise? or do you have an outside life and perhaps are missing the tortoise outings?

What is the temperature and humidity? What type of lighting do you use?
It's very normal for a baby Redfoot to sleep a lot, but they should be out for at least a little while everyday looking for food.

if you've had this tort for 3 years and it's activity has changed then I'd be concerned.. if it's always been this way (which is abnormal to my experience but I guess could be a personality thing) I guess I'd just keep an eye on it. Do you work most of her waking hours so you don't really know her activity? Maybe you should get her out for a soak and some interaction every day..
