I was wondering if you ever have to cut your tortoise's nails?

(i have a red foot)

If they get to overgrown yes you can cut them, but generally the wear and tear from a tortoises daily routine should keep them at a good length.

Like you have been told, it rarely should happen if your tortoise or turtle's environment is set up well. Making sure they have things like flat rocks will help to naturally keep them filed down. I myself, have not had to trim a tortoise nail... wish I could say the same for the dogs, cats, and horses. :D
