I'm wondering if my little dude is having trouble navigating his tank lol. He doesn't tend to wander around much, but when I pick him up and place him in his water dish, he drinks and drinks as if he's never going to stop! I'm worried that he is going too long without drinking.. His water dish is in the cool end, he spends most of his day in the hot end. The hot end, during the day, is about 90°-95°. The cool end is mid-70s to low 80s. He also doesn't seem interested in his plant-pot hides. I put him in one of them the other day and he stayed for a little while but then left it again. Sometimes he'll sleep beside one of his hides though lol.

I've had him for a week and a half but still haven't narrowed down a name for him yet lol.

Maybe move the water dish to the warm side and give him a hide with moist sphagnum moss on that side as well. Choices for the little bugger.

Also be sure he can get in and out of the water dish easily. A flower pot saucer works well. They have low sides. Also, bury it level with the substrate. If he is really small, put a rock or two in the dish so he can push on them to get out easily.

The hide in the warm end does have damp moss in it. He'd still rather burrow outside of it. I might move the water dish over though. Swap it with the ceramic mushroom I've got in there for decoration lol

You might try burying the pot/hide half under the substrate. Make it more of a tight close in feeling for him.

Is your baby tort a sulcata? If so, the cool side is too cool. Cool temps should never be below 80 degrees. I would do what Cowboy suggested. Move his water dish closer to the hot end.

Never mind about the sulcat question...just realized you are under RF.:p

Your basking temps sound a little high, I wouldn't let it get much above 90. Offer a second water dish in the hot end. Since he is new it may be he is just getting settled.

No, he's a cherry-head..

put a few small dishes in different locations for the tort to drink from.. and soak every other day.. if you want to measure out how much you pour in each dish to see if there is drinking...
