Hello , I have 2 Russian tortoise which I am building and outdoor play ground for 8X4 with a cover house 1X2.... I need suggestion on ground.... I will put (bark or tortoises ground stuff) but I also wanna plant some of their daily food group plants so they have food at all time when needed.... any idea what to use as a base, one they would like to burrow them self in and can grow food? also how much of a depth should I consider??? Thx everybody....

RE: need input.....on enclosure size

If you are putting it outdoors, why not just set it on the grass and let them graze or dig.

If you want a floor and plants, you should consider using a nice quality topsoil. it will grow plants well and still be easy for them to dig in. Gove them a few inches if they like to dig. You can buy bags of it at Home Depot or check your landscaping places. That's what I use for my winter enclosure in the garage.
