Hello, just a little bit of insight on me. Live in the Toronto GTA area (Canada eh :p), have owned reptiles before (snakes, geckos,) the basics. I never really had the money (14 y/o) for a tortoise or proper care for it, but things are a little different. Anyways I'm going to be starting a table build in a week or two, already have everything planned out but I'll be starting a new thread on that today because I have a few questions and need a bit of help.

Oh and my names Maxim, hope I'll be here for a while :)

Thanks, looking at Russians, Redfoots, Hermanns, Greeks, etc. Typically anything under 12" MAX. I have a table design planned out, it's kind of in an L-shape and it's the same square feet as an 8x4. Well, almost 32'>31.5'

UVB, Heat lamps, fogger if tropical species. All not a problem, but deciding what tortoise I want as a first...

I recommend you don't get two. One or a group. No pairs.

I know what your thinking about it would
Be great to have all thoughts torts. Where do you live ? And do you have
That amount of money put away for any
Unforeseen problem a raccoon or someone's pet dog . To deworming of
All the torts.
If I was you I would start out with just
One tort and give it the time it needs
And it will be happier and so will you !
But have fun !

Thanks, and just to let everyone else know despite the name I was only looking to buy one tortoise  I closer to the outskirts of Toronto, decent sized backyard with nothing but forest behind it. I do have money for deworming though.

It is said, that pumpkin, all parts, including seeds, ground up and fed to a tort is a natural dewormer.:). Cheaper too:D

Wellington,,,funny thing about the pumpkin..El was a bit sluggish a couple months ago around pumpkin time and I bought her a little pumpkin treat and it pepped her right up...I never saw any indication of worms just a sluggish baby and gave her a new treat and she has been pretty happy ever since.. not sure what the deal was but I think pumpkin might do more than clear out worms..

I have a Hermann tortoise and she's great. I also live in Canada (Alberta) and wanted a tortoise known for being hardy and also a great beginner tortoise. From what I've researched, they do very well within a tortoise table enclosure (I have mine is a Large-Low ExoTerra terrarium). But beware . . . they are excellent climbers. : )
