Neat! Is this a birthday gift?
It's something I have been trying to find for quite awhile, I was on the phone with the seller till after midnight Thursday morning and I received it at 4 pm on Friday (my 60th) so I guess it was a birthday present. there's not many out there for sale,and this one has a good history and the price was acceptable,it seems to be doing good, eating and acting like a normal tortoise. It's a 2009 hatchling. ---- I had a Great Birthday-- Thanks, Len

Did you get it from Hoekstra? He's the only one I've heard of who has had breeding success with them.

No, It is one of Dwight Lawson's, Is Hoekstra in California, I heard that somebody out west had breeding success but had no name for this person.And Tremper hasn't advertised any this year that I've seen. As far as I know there are at least 2 breeders and a possible third on the west coast which could be Hoekstra.

Yes...Ralph Hoekstra. The tortoises don't actually belong to him, but some gal who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. He's in Southern Calif. (I hope my memory is serving me correctly. Old age you know...)

Dwight Lawson is associated with the Fort Worth zoo, right? So are those Impressas affiliated with TSA? If I didn't have so many different kinds of tortoise I would be interested in trying the Impressa. I understand its pretty hard to get them to eat (the WC ones). Did you get some good advice on caring for your new baby?

Dwight is with Zoo Atlanta. I have been studying them for years, I think I have read everything written about them. So far it has eaten mushroom,pothos,mazuri,sweet potato,squash,tomato and it's candy food is cantaloupe (he almost ran to it),I will keep trying different foods as time goes on.

{ once again I type too slow }

Yvonne - ( signature on email from Dwight )

Dwight Lawson, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President
Collections, Education & Conservation
Zoo Atlanta

The "breeding loan" paperwork was processed thru Dwight's secretary for the TSA G. elegans I am currently holding.. he is also involved with the "steering committe" [ those that decide which animals are placed where ] of TSA. However from what I understood the last time I visited; the breeders that produced Len's hatchling were Dwight's privately owned - I too am relying on my [ older ] memory here.

I wouldn't think there are many WC 'Impressa' coming into the country Yvonne.
