I checked out your other thread do you have any pictures of Russell's enclosure? His eyes do look a little too closed, but it's really hard to see in those pictures. :)

It's a little late to go outside and take a picture of that one. It's about three times larger than the indoor one. I'll take pictures of that tomorrow.

And about his eyes, if I put water on them and he walks around a bit, they tend to open up, but it's definitely a matter that has me worried. It takes awhile for Russell to open them and even longer to seem healthy.

and I apologize for the picture quality. I'm using my phone. I'll put better pictures up as soon as possible. I'll just have to get my camera back xD

I was mainly talking about his inside inclosure, but we'd love to see the outside one too.

I attached the inside, I think. I don't know exactly how to use the website yet xD, but yeah, any advice on anything I should change or adjust. I want to make Russell as happy and healthy as possible.

I can tell ya right now, even with the blurry pictures, he's much too dry! In order to get those eyes open right away, put him in a bowl of water. Not too deep, just deep enough so that he doesn't have to struggle to keep his head up. Soak him like that for about 15 minutes. And while he's soaking pour a pitcher FULL of water over that substrate and mix it around with your hand. They need to be kept in a humid semi-moist environment. The pitcher-full of water will moisten the substrate clear through. Then the lights will dry out the top layer, leaving the moisture underneath.

A good place to read about care for your redfoot tortoise is www.turtletary.com/

Can you change it to a different type? Moss or peat/sand mix to help hold the moisture a bit? And they prefer darker.. like a rain forest.. they dont need a bright light...but they do need it warm.

Hi RedfootForTheWin, Russell really needs to have his substrate changed especially if that is the fir bark substrate. Fir bark or redwood bark is from the Pine tree and often causes eye and repiratory problems with torts. RF need a high humidity, warm, darkend enviroment. I, like Yvonne Highly recommed you read www.turtletary.com or www.Redfoots.com they state how to set up a great enviorment for your redfoot and the type of food to feed. I was able to rehab an ill RF with this information. Though it is not the only info out there, I feel it is very good information. Sphargnum moss from Home Depot or Lowes is fairly inexpensive and make for a very good substrate for RF's. It holds moisture and does not mold or mildew.

I'm so sad right now because this does not look good. They never came back for the advice. I'm thinking that something bad happened. I guess I'm feeling this way because I have a Cherryhead and I wouldn't want anything to happen to him. Hopefully I'm wrong and I'll see a post here soon. :(

Thanks, you've been a great help. It wasn't fir bark but it is bark so I'll make sure to get the moss.

Here's better pictures.
