Newbie from Michigan

I'm looking to learn more about tortoises and may possibly get one down the road. I realize they live a very long time so I am interested in adopting one that needs a home.

I lived in AZ for a few years when I was younger. Phoenix and Mesa.

One of the smaller breeds most likely. Russian or Hermann's.

Both are very nice tortoises and great for those just starting out. The Russian is also one you will see on rescues a lot.

Depending on where you are located in Michigan, there are always Russians needing new homes in the Grand Rapids and Flint area Craigslist.

My Redfoots seem very happy in Michigan and they aren't too hard to maintain inside during the winter. I love em

I will keep my eyes open. I came across a Hermann's on the Ann Arbor one the other day, but when I contacted them they gave me a listing of the different ages available and their prices. So it didn't seem like a legitimate tortoise in need of a home. KWIM?

There usually aren't as many hermanns as Russians, but I have seen a few.
