I am wondering if I have a normal guy, or a cherry head. The breeder said they may have been cherry heads, but he sold them as normals because he wasn't sure. Are there any tell tale signs of a cherry head? 20150613_121430.jpg 20150613_121154.jpg

Looks like a normal northern. The scute pattern on the face give it away. Pretty little one.

Chelseaa.....and some info for others new to reds. What we are looking for as identifying characteristics on the different species is the marbling plastron that "normally" take place even in a new neo-nate within the cherryhead species. While the Northern and other species of reds will lack this and in particular the Northern variety will have a " darkened spot" and or two triangles when mature within the plastron.
Here a young small Redfoot about the size of yours.........

Now some Adult Northern Redfoots ....

as opposed to Adult and sub adult Cherries ...

but time and time again Mother Nature will throw us a curve ball ....and there is soooo much Debate on to "Local" species it gets silly ....

Here is an Adult Male Cherry (my black line)....who DOES NOT follow the "Books Rules"

It was apparent from the first pic that it was a northern. A nice one at that.
