Wow! The attack of the giant fungus!

I've never seen such a big mushroom. Is this something you have grown on purpose, or a volunteer?

I don't know how to tell the poisonous ones from the good ones. But I'll bet your turtle does. He probably won't eat it unless you chop it up and mix it with his food...so don't do that.

I GOOGLE'd giant mushroom and found this picture:

Ocasionally mushrooms show up in my pens, and I let them decide if they want to eat them or not. I wouldn't present fungi as food unless I was sure if it was OK. The only wild ones I have eaten around here are morels and giant puffballs, only because they don't have poisonous look alikes.

Mushrooms are notoriously difficult to ID. Personally, I would not allow any of my chelonians access to it. Why risk it when there are plenty of food sources known to be safe?

If you click on the link in my post up above, then scroll down to the picture, the name of the mushroom is 'oyster' mushroom.

Great!! I couldn't decide between the chicken of the woods or the oyster because they both look so similar, but I broke off a piece n it didn't smell like an oyster (like the link suggested) so I assumed it was chicken of the woods... But they are both non-toxic n I put them both next to it n they went to town... So I guess it's ok, right?
