I was talking to Tom and told him I had a 117 year old sulcata tortoise and he said that the oldest ones in zoo's are only 39? Mine is a male called Hermes, he was hatched by my great grandfather in south Africa and my dad grew up in south Africa and brought him to America 23 years ago. He is 280 pounds! So I looked it up and saw that there is a forum page but only for moderators so I'm making this. I'll take a picture of him tomorrow he is in his hut with the other tortoises. I also have a female named Sarah who is 114 years old and 135 pounds. But other then that there aren't any older then 20.

    • The oldest recorded sulcata that I'm aware of was at the Giza Zoological Gardens and was only 54. Unless a larger one has been recorded recently the Giza Zoo also had the largest at 41.6 inches and 232 lbs. If the records can be trusted the oldest tortoise ever belonged to the Tongan royal family and was 188 (1777-1965). At 187 (1832-present) the oldest living tortoise is a year away from meeting that record.

The oldest living now is Jonathan the Aldabra and I didn't see a species on oldest ever. I added those for general info. The two at Giza were sulcatas. anapsid.org
