Hey all.

Looking for some advice from the community. I used to be able to walk into any hardware store and easily grab a few Duramax or similar indoor flood 45-100W bulbs. However, my supply has run out, and after checking a few stores yesterday, I came up empty-handed. It seems like the stores in my area just aren’t carrying them anymore.

Does anyone know of a good place to purchase basking bulbs online? Or maybe have recommendations for a suitable alternative, maybe a specialized electrical store? Would something like this work https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C1GRR33Q/?tag=exoticpetnetw-20?

Thanks everyone!

Ah what a pain! Don’t suppose you can get the Arcadia brand floodlights where you are? Let me get @Alex and the Redfoot to check the link you’ve added🙂
Right! Trying to prep for a new tort and at my wits end with a few different things I'm trying to find. Could you link the one you are referencing? And thank you, I really appreciate it!

These bulbs are spot bulbs and shouldn't be used.
Amazon should still have some or if you can get Arcadia.

You want FLOOD bulbs.
Spot, mercury and halogens you do not want.

Hello and welcome!
It said "spot" in description. You don't want spot basking light because it causes pyramiding.
@Tom will you please help to get the right one?
Those are spot bulbs and shouldn't be used.

That's what I said 😊

Hello!
These bulbs look very similar to other flood bulbs on the market (shape and frosted glass). Diagram on the box (distance/temperature), if it's true, is similar to incandescent flood bulbs. Photos in reviews also show pretty large lit area. However, beam angle is not specified anywhere, so I'm only guessing. But there are two concerns: some reviews state low reliability and quality of the bulbs and price is almost on par with "well-known brands" like Arcadia or ProRep.

Check SwellReptile online shop for Arcadia Solar Basking Floodlight or ProRep Flood Spot bulbs. At least, these lamps were tested and brands have better reputation.

Yeah, that's what I was confused about as well. I've always used the incandescent flood bulbs recommended here by Tom and others, and they looked pretty similar. To clarify, others mentioned that the description includes the word "spot," but you think it might still work based on its appearance? I assume I could just temp and look at the beam angle when I plug it in? Unfortunately, I’m having a hard time finding traditional bulbs locally and am unsure what to order online, otherwise I wouldn't bother with the usual Amazon garbage. Thanks for looking into this!

Word "spot" is always confusing as it's not clear if it relates to "basking spot" or to "spot lamp".

You can experiment with this bulbs, out of curiosity but easier is to get an Arcadia lamp:
With such price - make sure to get some spares.

You can also look at specialised shops for traffic light bulbs. Not easy to find a supplier but such bulbs are more reliable (as they are designed for harsh conditions and commercial use). But they are usually "pear shaped" - not efficient without a dome.

Durham as in North Carolina?

Incandescent bulbs have been banned for sale, but not for possession, all over the United States now. There may be an exception, but I think most other countries have done this too.

Flukers or Arcadia are still selling them, and you will just have to search around to find them. If you do find them, buy a bunch! At some point we won't be able to get them at all, and single fixtures will need to have another fixture added, or be switched out for a dual fixture rig, so that we can run a LED bulb right next to a CHE. I've never tried this, so I have no idea how well it will work, but it seems like the best logical substitute if incandescents cease to be available.

Welcome to the New World Order. "They" will decide what is best for you and what you can or can't have in your life. In a few generations people will forget what freedom was like, and obedience to the government will be the norm. Unless...

Yep. Couldn't find any around Chapel Hill, Durham, or Raleigh! Thanks so much, Tom, as always! Appreciate you chiming in, good to know and that makes sense. Absolutely ridiculous, I assumed something had to be up. 3-4 years ago when I brought the Sully over I could find them anywhere I looked. Can't believe the state of things sometimes, should be a little easier to get my hands on a simple bulb.

What kind of tort ?😊
I have a Sully that occupies a good part of my yard most of the year currently, and I am prepping for a 7 yo 10" Marginated :). Making sure it's winter enclosure is nice and ready! Was considering another but... the wife will probably not be happy if my reptiles start taking over more of the house.
