So... I want more Russians and today I saw a cl add for a "turtle and tank" $60.
In the picture it was clearly a tortoise but kind of looked like a CDT. So I called and asked what kind it was and told him about the law. He thought it was a Russian and said it did come from a pet store 5 years ago. So I took the 20 minute drive and looked at the tortoise. There was no nuchal acute and for what ever reason (I wanted another tortoise and I put my blinders on) I thought YES its a Russian! Even looks like a girl Russian. The guy said it was the same size when they got it 5 years ago. I was sold and gave him $60 for the tortoise, tank and iron stand. We loaded it in the truck and o was off.
About 5 minutes into my drive I thought to myself a Texas Tortoise doesn't have a nuchal acute... that's when the blinders fell off and I knew I screwed up.
So here is 2 pictures of my new TT.

It looks like a nice TT. If that is what it is. If you don't want it I am sure you can find a TFO member that will.

Well if you decide to keep it congrats, if you don't want it for whatever reason you can always let the CTTC handle it, just don't tell the you paid for it, tell them someone gave it to you. or you found it.

well, since there is NO WAY OF KNOWING FOR CERTAIN of what type of tortoise you have? there I would not worry about it....It looks as though he is healthy and that is half the battle most days, huh? I would just enjoy him and not be critical of anything not known for sure....:p

I belong to CTTC and know how to handle all that. My only issue is having room for another enclosure. I have my Russians in one corner of the yard and soon will have a 200 sq ft enclosure in the other corner of the yard for my CDT's. I have a pond in the middle on the back fence.
Ill figure out something, maybe i can trade a CDT for a TT?

ascott, i know for sure its a TT! I knew it when i was driving home. I have the weekend off ill wait till then to think about it! :D

68Merc....Yeah, I know what species it is too by viewing the photo...I was simply giving you encouragement on which ever way you decided to go....good luck.:) Helping out with an excuse since you found yourself in a "dooohhh" situation....

Hey 68merc....you said you already have a pen set up for the CDT's you have.....and you are CTTC so I figure you don't have males/females housed together....maybe you could add an extension on the exterior of your CDT pen for this guy after you make sure he is healthy and all? Or maybe not :p

Hi Murray:

If you decide you don't want the tortoise, I have a nice breeding colony of them. But I feel my males are a little top heavy. I have 4 females and 3 males. I'd love to add another female to the group.

Yvonee I think that sounds like a good plan. She is in the back yard in a sectioned off part of my future CDT pen.
PS: This TT was a classroom pet and has little to no fear of human hands.

Ok... this all worked out. Yvonne got a new TT and I made $15 selling the tank.
Hope I don't do that again.
