Hey, so today when I placed tank the tortoise in his soaking dish I went down stairs to cook myself a meal. Then suddenly I realize omg shoot. I had left him soaking for an hour and half. Is that ok I noticed his eyes a little sunk in but I think that's his skin getting ready to shed

Did the water stay warm all that time. If so, shouldn't be a problem. If he got cold, I would keep a close eye on him to make sure he doesn't come down sick.

He will probably be fine. I have done the same, just not as long. I would not worry about it just keep a closer eye on him for awhile.

I wouldn't worry, even if the water did get cold, one time like that is most likely not gonna do anything.

LOL....He should be fine...even if the water got a little chilly....cold would be less desirable of course :D

 I have left my old man Humphry (CDT) soaking for over 2 hours once...although when I came back to my then office he was sound asleep not worried at all....as a matter of fact he is my best soaker and eater....:p

Where's Dean? He'll tell you that an hour and ten minutes is no problem. :)

A tortoise in cold water is not an issue, unless you are putting them out on your back deck in a snowstorm or something like that! Tortoises drink from and soak in cold water outdoors all the time. Sometimes if placed from a warm enclosure into a cold bowl of water they will struggle to get out. But so would most people! It's the sudden shock of temperature change that they (and we) don't like. But if the tortoise was placed in water that was warm and it slowly cooled off there is no issue.

If your tortoise's eyes appear sunken, it has nothing to do with sitting in water for a long period. In most cases, sunken eyes are a sign of conditions being too dry and/or dehydration. Sitting in water for over an hour should benefit that condition, not cause it.

Agreed with all the above, shouldn't be any problem that he got such a long soak.

To be perfectly honest, I do that a LOT with my torts and dragon. I'm very bad about losing track of time, and what should be a 20-30 min soak often ends up being an hour and a half or more. That's actually why I've taken to putting my Leo's soak tub in his viv, so it doesn't get under 80ish if I loose track of time and leave him there for a couple hours... Anyway, I've never had any complications from such long soaks (other than a peeved beardie).
