Why doesn't it look safe? It's been safe for over a year. There's a 2 inch gap and an extra 6" x 6" in square piece of glass at the end if the hide
A ceramic heat emitter (CHE), screwed into the ceiling.I am conflicted now because so many people on this forum repeatedly told me not to put it on the floor and to place it on the side of the tank, so not to burn him. The room he is in as silly as it's sounds is where when we had our central heating put in, the main pipe work is under the floor, So it's the warmest room in the house. I very rarely use the mat and the last time I did was when we had the deep freeze. That being said, what would you suggest I get and where would you place it. For nights that I would be turning it on
Is that not a basking light? That I already have?A ceramic heat emitter (CHE), screwed into the ceiling.
Nope! A CHE only emits heat, no light. The tortoise will still need a basking bulb to emulate the sun (and the brightness that comes from it). They’re relatively cheap!Could I buy a CHE and remove the daytime basking light and put the CHE in at nighttime when I feel its too cold
Fixture sorryNo I obviously will be keeping the basking light on in the day. The question was could I purchase a CHE bulb and at night when the basking light gets turned off, then screw in a CHE bulb and use it. I don't want a third future screwed to the roof if possible
You could do but I can imagine that’d be a very tedious job to do twice a day lol. May as well get another fixture. Your tort is gonna be around for the next 100 years or so!No I obviously will be keeping the basking light on in the day. I know, already ordered. Bulb and fixture not expensive at all. I just need to find a good thermostat. I've always hated the sight if the heat mat to be honest and I'm still learning and I think a CHE would be perfect, so thank youYou could do but I can imagine that’d be a very tedious job to do twice a day lol. Yes they work on same E27 fitting. Make sure the tort can't climb on anything to end up near the CHE and pick him up away from it. If you touch it when hot it's a serious burn. Alternative options are no light, light bulbs...which doesn't make sense but they exist in pets at home for about a fiver (if I remember right)...they just emit a bit of heat.Could I buy a CHE and remove the daytime basking light and put the CHE in at nighttime when I feel its too cold
Haha late to the party and you've ordered. CHE will be fine but don't panic too much about night heat if your room is centrally heated anyway.Yes they work on same E27 fitting.
