There is no way to tell by looking what the genetics are, especially since so many are mixed nowadays. In your pics I see no South African traits, but there could certainly be some that I'm just not seeing in the small pics on my small screen.

Also the subspecies are no longer considered valid anymore.

You most likely have a tortoise of mixed origins, not a pure South African, and its a nice looking one too. :)

If you paid the going price for leopards in your area, then it's a Babcock. The South African leopards usually sell for more.

There's really no way to tell unless you have some history on the adults that produced it.

There is so much variability in leopard tortoises, you really can't tell for sure just by looking at it, but there are some distinct differences between the two main types that may give hints about the tortoises genetics. I am not seeing anything in yours that show South African leopard characteristics, so you have a normal leopard.

13lbs at 5 years is about normal. My adult babcocks weigh about 25lbs, so if yours gains another 13 lbs in the next 5 years it will be about average in weight for a full grown babcock.

I have a mutt leopard.. (traits of both in my leopard, his clutchmates and his parents)
He's 3 years old and 7lbs so your weight at 5 years old seems normal to me, too.

Yours is a very pretty leopard with all that light coloring.

You missed a couple of words in my post. I said you can't really tell for sure just by looking at it, implying the best that anyone do is guess with a small probability for accuracy.

I have 29 leopard torts , and been raising torts for almost 16 years . And like they said so nicely that now days most not all are mixed . But if I bought a car I would make sure I knew if it it was a ford or Chevy my self if it was important to me :)

Hej Grandpa Turtle,
Yes i agree.. and thats why im asking you ! because the girl WHO Sells the tortois dosent have any information on the parrents of the tortois, and thats why i hoped you maby knew.

i just thought the weight on the turtle, comparred with the age maby could give an indication. :)

But thanks for all the replies :)!
