So iv a wooden vivarium for my tort and I was wondering should I put something down before I put the substrate in so it doesn’t damage the wood or are vivarium designed to be okay ? I was thinking maybe to put down a plastic bag? But I’m afraid that might be harmful if he somehow got to it, any help is appreciated

depends on the species' needs and type of vivarium. If you can, please post pictures

I haven’t picked up my tort yet as I trying to get his enclosure perfect first, he’s a Herman and the vivarium is an oak terapod, unfortunately I don’t have any pictures just yet

The melamine should keep the moisture from going into the wood. I would recommend using aquarium silicone in the corners and seams.

other than that you should be fine

In my first indoor table I put plastic under 4 inches of coco coir and my Russian tortoise just dug right through and ripped up the plastic.
