Plastic under substrate ?

So iv a wooden vivarium for my tort and I was wondering should I put something down before I put the substrate in so it doesn’t damage the wood or are vivarium designed to be okay ? I was thinking maybe to put down a plastic bag? But I’m afraid that might be harmful if he somehow got to it, any help is appreciated

I haven’t picked up my tort yet as I trying to get his enclosure perfect first, he’s a Herman and the vivarium is an oak terapod, unfortunately I don’t have any pictures just yet

The melamine should keep the moisture from going into the wood. I would recommend using aquarium silicone in the corners and seams.

other than that you should be fine

In my first indoor table I put plastic under 4 inches of coco coir and my Russian tortoise just dug right through and ripped up the plastic.
