Does anyone know what this spot is on our new tortoise’s shell is?
Please help (abrasion on shell)

It looks like an abrasion of some sort, it looks like it's down to bone. I can't see really good, but it looks healed so I wouldn't worry about it. I am kinda wondering is he isn't wild caught. His carapace looks like he is

Did he come from a pet store? If yes, he is a wild caught tortoise. While he was out on his own he ran into some trouble that damaged his shell. It could have been an animal attack, or caught somewhere and the shell was scraped.
Over years, the old shell will fall off and new will grow, but it takes a very long time.
Nothing to worry about now.

Oh wow! We just bought him from PersSmart. I hope he wasn’t snatched from the wild. That’s so sad ?

Oh thank you so much for helping us! He’s our second Tortoise in two weeks bc a store sold us a sick one the first time. We were so sad. Then we finally found a new one and I saw this spot, but I started to worry it was growing. I’m so happy to know our little guy is going to be ok!

It's likely that the pet store gave you bad advice on how to care for him, and may have sold you equipment that you don't need.
