IMG_2017-05-08_01-24-51.JPG Found this beauty crossing the highway today! Search online for lost tortoise but haven't found anything, obviously she could have been lost for years. Not sure what we are going to do with her just yet. We have lots of animals cows/horses/donkeys/dogs/cat and 4 aquatic turtles so don't panic, I do know a bit about proper care of an animal. She looks to be a Leopard female. She measures 9" in length on bottom weighs about 3lbs. What do y'all suggest is the best for her?

North central Louisiana, found her in a kinda wooded area crossing hwy near on ramp to interstate! Lol after passing at 55 mph and looking in rearview mirror, my first thought was some sort of albino common snapper....certainly not what we normally see crossing the road! No homes nearby so no telling where she came from.

Howdy Erin,
Yes, that certainly is a leopard tortoise. Where abouts are you located? You know, city and state? For starters, to begin learning the proper care of your tortoise, head on over to the section here titled specie specific care and look up the care for a leopard and or sulcata tortoise. The care for each is pert-near the same.
Read and study those care sheets. They've been written by active keepers that are mainly wanting to spread the word for the proper care of a tortoise to live a long and healthy life. The WideWorldInternetMachine is full of old, outdated and even counterproductive information that just keeps getting parroted back by many pet stores and even some veterinarians. Our fellow members have one mission…healthy tortoises.
Don't be shy about asking any questions that you may have. Ask away, then ask some more. Soon you will be answering questions yourself.
I must say, yes you've got a very good group of critters. That said, none of them come close to the dietary needs of a leopard tortoise or the housing needs of one.
In the meantime, welcome to the tortoise forum, the BEST location to find real, solid information about tortoises and turtles the Internet Machine has to offer. Jump over to the introduction section and introduce yourself and say hi. Also in your profile page, it will help many of us if you put in your city and state. We have members from around the world and it helps everyone if someone asks if a local plant,(to them) is safe for their tortoise.
(And yes they do graze just like a horse does on good pasture.)ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1494228458.435083.jpg
