Hello, all! So my Russian is 17 years old and been with me almost all of that time. Lots of research has changed over the years. That being said, one thing hasn't changed: He's a digger. So his usual outdoor dog kennel is falling apart (wooden walls lining the inside of the kennel) My husband and I decided to rip it down and make him a new enclosure while he's inside for the chilly months. This is all fine and dandy, but I'm having some issues. Before, I dug down and put wire under ground so if he decided to dig that deeply, he couldn't get out. As I'm pulling up his old enclosure, I notice the wire isn't even an inch from the top of the soil at this point. Few rainy years has basically washed it up. I'd rather not go that route again, so what do you do to make sure yours don't dig under walls? I'd like to go the kennel route again. I found one that's 12x9 and comes with a roofed top. I'm currently using pond net and it has to be cut down yearly to remove pounds and pounds of pine straw so having a different top would be awesome!
Anyway, my husband doesn't really want to do the kennel again. He wants to make our own, which I'm fine with, but I feel it's going to have to be smaller so I can put liftable sections of lid on it. Even if I can make it as big, it won't be as tall so his usual plant jungle won't be able to grow. Plus I used pressure treated wood when I made it before and even after 8 years it's barely hanging on. Long story short, all advice and photos are welcome. Other than capping corners, how do you keep them in? I'll dig the wire again if I have to, but I'd rather try something else. Thank you!
