Protein?

So, ive had my adorable little RF for about a week. The guy at the pet shop said to feed him protein once a week or so and recommended canned crickets. I tried to give my little guy one, and he nipped at it and then ducked into his shell and wasnt interested. What else could i use for protein that he might like?

Hard boiled eggs, cooked chicken, worms, snails, the occasional GOOD QUALITY canned dog food, etc. My YF tortoises occasionally eat soaked and softened Purina Pro Plan dry cat food.
