So I was thinking about pyramiding and what else can be te cause.
Since tortoise shell is made of similar material as human nails, did anyone think of some sort of fungus that could be the cause of pyramiding?
Recently I saw a person in supermarket that had almost pyramided nails on his feet. And it didn't look nice.
I belive that this was some sort of fungus on his nails.

Just thinking.

I also wonder what else can affect it.

My aunt has 2 leopard tortoises.
Both were raised in the same place, a large viv.

Now they live outside with a heated house.

Thing is, the large one is much much more pyramided then the smaller one.
Any ideas why?

i think proper lighting is a huge issue. i have no doubt that Tom is right about the humidity factor, but that only works with proper lighting and diet and isnt as big of a factor when they are older.

i see that many of the really bad cases are animals that did not get the proper lighting and barely hung on. I know mine wasnt getting enough before i got him and now his new growth lines are pretty flat, and i let him roam free
