so i tend to keep my tortoise enclosures clean, i clean there excess food before bed i change there water daily more then once at times if they bathroom in it. but i seem to be getting little nat like things so i thought of switching to a tortoise diet its the fluskers daily tortoise diet and i am wondering if that would still be just as good for them and then occasionally do leafy greens to cut back on these bugs or what else could it be??? desperate for answers!!

You're probably correct.
That substrate is not likely to harbor gnats.
But, it's also not a good substrate.
I'd get some Orchid bark from the hardware store in the garden department.
What type of tortoise?

Bad part is I am allergic to all tree like substrates so that’s hard for me I have a liking for tortoises cause I’m allergic to most other pets

My concern would be that that media might get eaten and that it won't hold humidity very well.
What type of tortoise do you have?

Wow.
That's quite a collection.
The Redfoot and Sulcata need high humidity
If you're getting your numbers up, then I guess that'll work.
Truthfully I have no first hand experience with walnut shells.

I also stay them which they seem to love and they love my huge back yard when it’s warm enough lately 90’s which is always nice
